Schools warned off Microsoft deal

The UK computer agency Becta is advising schools not to sign licensing agreements with Microsoft because of alleged anti-competitive practices. The government agency has complained to the Office of Fair Trading. It says talks with Microsoft have not resolved “fundamental concerns” about academic licensing and about Office 2007 and the Vista operating system.


Gears of War wins Joystick awards

Third person shooter Gears of War has scooped the “Ultimate Game of the Year Award” at the Golden Joysticks. The title sold more than 3 million copies in 10 weeks and won three more awards including Xbox game of the year and the editors choice.


Gap pulls ‘child labour’ clothing

Fashion chain Gap has withdrawn from sale children’s clothing allegedly made using forced child labour in India. A 10-year-old boy was filmed making clothes for Gap shops in the US and Europe as part of an investigation by the UK’s Observer newspaper.
